Standing Rock Community Development Corporation

We've Become
Seven Stones Corp

On May 6, 2026, our Board adopted Seven Stones Corp as our public name. Same 501(c)(3) organization, same mission, same people — a name that carries our foundation forward.

Seven stones, gathered as a turtle's shell, carry the teaching of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ — the Seven Council Fires. Each fire is its own. Together they are one.

A New Name, Carried by Seven Stones

Standing Rock CDCSeven Stones Corp

From Standing Rock CDC to Seven Stones Corp

For nearly a decade we have carried this work as Standing Rock Community Development Corporation. At the heart of our original seal sits the turtle — and its shell carried over into the shape of our new emblem.

On May 6, 2026, our Board of Directors adopted Seven Stones Corp as our trade name, carrying the teaching of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ — the Seven Council Fires of our people.

Standing Rock Community Development Corporation remains our legal name, today doing business as Seven Stones Corp. Nothing about who we are has changed. Same people. Same purpose. Same Standing Rock roots.

Why Seven Stones?

The turtle carries the shape. The sevens carry the meaning. The name comes from our way of prayer — in our ceremonies, seven stones come first, and everything we do follows the sevens.

When we pray, we pray to the West — that is one. To the North — two. To the East — three. To the South — four. We pray upward to the sky — five. Down to Mother Earth — six. And the seventh is for all the people — all our relations, everyone we carry in prayer.

Seven directions. Seven Council Fires. Seven stones. When our Board chose this name, we chose what our people already carry.

The work continues, uninterrupted. Our youth programs, community engagement, food sovereignty work, and language and culture preservation carry on across the districts of the Standing Rock Nation — under the new name, with the same hands.

Our new digital home is on its way.

A brand-new Seven Stones Corp website is being built right now — a new home for our story, our programs, our impact, and the ways you can walk with us. It will launch later this summer.

Quick Questions

Did Standing Rock CDC change its name?

Yes. On May 6, 2026, our Board of Directors adopted Seven Stones Corp as our trade name. Standing Rock Community Development Corporation remains our legal name — today doing business as Seven Stones Corp.

Is it still the same organization?

Completely. Same 501(c)(3) nonprofit we have been since 2017, same Board, same team, same programs, same Standing Rock roots. Only the name on the door is new.

Why “Seven Stones”?

The name comes from our way of prayer: seven stones come first in our ceremonies, and we pray in sevens — West, North, East, South, the sky above, Mother Earth below, and the seventh for all the people, all our relations. The turtle at the heart of our original seal carries the shape; the sevens carry the meaning.
